Light Rings
SkyHarbor International Airport, Phoenix, Arizona • 2008 • competition entry • in collaboration with Jody Pinto

The proposed installation of LED-lit colored fiberglass canopies, internally illuminated bench seating, and native vegetation brought life to a neglected plaza between the city and airport’s light rail stations. More than just a hospitable place to linger while waiting for a train, local running and biking paths are rerouted through the plaza’s vibrant sculptural forms and lush landscaping. Whether for a moment of respite or a casual social encounter, the plaza creates a destination for urban interaction.
