The Right Show
New York, New York • 2007
Styrofoam is both a waste product and a highly recycled material; as white as snow but definitively artificial. These dichotomies were the basis for the set and lighting design for this zero-budget design-build for Alan Good Dance Company's "The Right Show" performance at the Construction Company. An abstracted city grid frames the dancers, as their feet crunch an icy layer of foam. From a quiet blizzard, the dancers’ tentative footprints build into a cacophony of destruction, resolving into a commentary on innocence, politics, and consumer culture.
